McGrigor: “Public expects unsolved murder cases to remain open”

Commenting on the number of unsolved murder cases in the Highlands and Islands, Conservative MSP Jamie McGrigor said:

“I am confident that Northern Constabulary officers, who work tirelessly on behalf of the people of the Highlands and Islands, are as frustrated as anyone over these as yet unsolved cases.

“It should not be acceptable for those who take a person’s life, especially as horrifically as in the most recent cases where Alistair Wilson in Nairn and Shamsudden Mahmood in Orkney were murdered in cold blooded hits, to remain unpunished without the fear of being caught.

“The public would expect these cases remain open but there is also an onus on those members of the public who either know who committed these murders, or at least have suspicions to come forward and perhaps give Northern Constabulary the new lead they require to progress these cases.

“If that happens, we might see the perpetrators of these horrific crimes being caught, prosecuted and convicted”.
